About Us
Though we are a small, family-owned and operated company, we have big capabilities and like doing things the right way.
We treat all parties involved as our customer: the shipper, the receiver, the trucker, riggers, installers, whoever it might be. They are all trying to do their job and we want to work with and treat everyone like we would want to be treated. That means being truthful, honest, courteous and professional.
Thorough communication is the key to getting things done the right way, so that all parties are satisfied when the job is done. We strive to get all the pertinent information about each load and will communicate that inormation to everyone who needs to know.
Company History
True Blue Transportation was started by Marty DiGiacomo, who began his trucking career in 1979. After being a company driver and owner-operator leased to a few different companies, he decided to venture out on his own and put into practice some of his own ideas.
"I always took my job seriously, kept my truck clean and sharp, loved interacting with and serving my customers with excellent service, yet I felt if I were on my own I could be free to do even more. Some of the companies I drove for were lax about safety and keeping their equipment up. That really bothered me and was one of the main reasons I wanted to start my own company. Keeping equipment properly maintained protects the driver, the public and your career.
Another reason was being told to lie about shortages or damaged freight. I'm not going to lie to anyone when I know they are getting shorted or damaged goods that were knowingly loaded on my truck by the company I drove for. Sooner or later they're going to find out anyway. It's just plain stupid. And it is dishonest.
One LTL carrier I worked for always preached that they wanted to be number one in keeping damages down on freight but they would give you absolutely nothing to aid you to accomplish it. We were not even provided with basic equipment, like load bars. While loading at a dock with a driver from another carrier, I noticed how much equipment his company supplied him with: locking load bars, E-track, partition boards, straps, etc. Now THAT is how the job gets done! There's a difference between preaching and providing. I wanted to fall into the latter category.
I also saw owner operators and company drivers being treated poorly. That included being lied to, shorted on pay, withholding information on a load that would have made a difference on whether the driver chose to accept it or not, not allowing a driver proper home time. All these are unnecessary and wrong, not to mention counter-productive. I wanted to be in a position to treat guys fairly and pay them as much as I could for a job well done. Now I can do that. Whether it's an owner/operator who has been with me for a long time or a first-time contract carrier, he's going to be treated fairly.
One guy I worked for I really respected. Bob Clark, owner of R. D. Clark & Sons, Cromwell, CT, knew how to run a trucking operation and was a great communicator and trainer. He and his sons were constantly communicating and directing their drivers in the proper, safe and most cost effective way to do everything. They never cut corners when it came to safety and maintenance. They all helped prepare me for becoming a successful owner-operator and, later, running my own company."
Marty's experience includes running the 48 states beginning in 1979, then running the northeast with dry van, reefer, flatbed, and over the road peddle and food service.
In 1994 Marty relocated to the Charlotte, NC area from Connecticut, constantly working toward developing his own trucking company.Since starting True Blue Transportation, we have a 99.9% on time & damage free service rate.
